Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information we collect on www.matchmakermay.com, why we collect it, who handles it for us, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Who we are
www.matchmakermay.com is run by Matchmaker May, the matchmaking business May Bugenhagen founded in 2009, which also does business as Two Asian Matchmakers. In this policy, "Matchmaker May", "we", "us" and "our" mean that business. You can reach us at may@matchmakermay.com or (310) 867-0851.
What we collect
When you fill in the form on this site:
- your first name, email address and mobile number
- whether you ticked the box to receive text messages
- your city, your age range and what you are looking for
- one photo of you, which only May and her team can see
When you book a call: the time you choose and the contact details the booking calendar asks for.
During and after your call: notes May makes about you and what you want in a partner.
If you complete your full profile: the longer profile form asks for more, such as photos, your background, lifestyle, relationship history and what you want in a partner. That form is hosted by HoneyBee (see "Companies that handle your information"), and this policy covers what you put in it.
When you email or text us: what you send.
When you visit the site: our hosting provider records standard technical details for each page request, such as IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. We use them only to keep the site working and secure.
From public sources: if we first contacted you because of something you posted publicly (for example on Instagram or Reddit), we keep your public handle and a note of where we found you. We never log in to your accounts or collect anything that isn't public.
Some of what you tell us may be sensitive, such as your ethnicity, religion or relationship history. We use it only to find you a match and to run the service you asked for.
We don't buy information about you from data brokers.
Cookies and tracking
This site has no analytics tools and no tracking pixels (Meta, Google, TikTok or any other). It sets no advertising cookies. The booking calendar is provided by HighLevel and may store small files in your browser (cookies or local storage) that it needs to work, such as your time zone.
How we use your information
- to review your application and prepare for your call
- to book your call and send confirmations and reminders by email, and by text if you agreed
- to find possible matches, propose introductions and follow up about them
- to keep a record of your preferences and our conversations
- to keep the site working and secure
- to meet legal obligations and protect our rights
A person reviews every application. We don't make decisions about you by automated means alone. We don't use your information for advertising, and we don't send you marketing from other companies.
How your profile is shared for introductions
Joining the network means you are asking us to find you a match, so parts of your profile are shared when we propose an introduction:
- With one of our male clients who may be a good match: your first name, age, city, photos and a short description of you.
- With a partner matchmaker whose client may be a good match, including through HoneyBee's network for matchmakers: the same limited profile, with no contact details.
Your last name, email address, phone number and social media handles are shared only after you agree to a specific introduction. We never post your profile publicly, and we never use your photos in advertising without your separate written permission.
Companies that handle your information
We use these companies to run the service. They handle your information on our behalf and only for that purpose.
- HighLevel (also called LeadConnector): our customer relationship system. It stores the form and booking details, runs the booking calendar and sends our emails and texts. Our HighLevel account is provided through HoneyBee.
- HoneyBee (HoneyBee Innovations LLC, withhoneybee.com): our matchmaking database. Your details are copied from HighLevel into HoneyBee, where your matchmaking profile is kept.
- Zoom: runs your video call with May.
- Railway: hosts this website.
- Microsoft 365: our email, if you write to may@matchmakermay.com.
People who help us run the business, such as an assistant matchmaker, a virtual assistant and the developers who maintain our systems, can see your information when their work requires it, and only then.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a sale or reorganization of the business.
Text messages
If you tick the SMS box on the form, we use your number to text you about your call and about introductions. Consent to texts is optional and is not a condition of joining or of any service. Reply STOP to stop and HELP for help. Full details are in our SMS terms.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. The sharing described in this policy excludes text messaging opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
We don't sell your information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising. We have not done either in the past 12 months.
How long we keep it
- Your profile and our notes: for as long as you want to be considered for introductions. If you tell us you're no longer looking, or ask us to delete your information, we delete it from HighLevel and HoneyBee. We keep only a note that you opted out, so we don't contact you again, plus anything the law requires us to keep.
- Profiles that have gone quiet: we check in with women we haven't heard from in a long time, and we delete profiles we no longer need.
- Booking records and messages: kept with your profile and deleted with it.
- Website logs: kept by our host for a short period for security, then deleted automatically.
- Calls: we don't record your video call.
Your choices and rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you and send you a copy
- correct it
- delete it
- stop considering you for introductions
You can also reply STOP to any text, and use the unsubscribe link in any email that isn't about a call you booked.
To make a request, email may@matchmakermay.com with the subject line "Privacy request", or call (310) 867-0851. We'll confirm it's you by checking the request against the email address or phone number we have, and we'll reply within 45 days. Using these rights won't change how we treat you.
California residents
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), gives you the rights listed above: to know what we collect, to get a copy, to correct it, to delete it, and not to be treated differently for using these rights. It also gives you the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information and to limit how sensitive personal information is used. We don't sell or share personal information, and we use sensitive personal information only to provide the service you asked for, so there is nothing to opt out of. We honor Global Privacy Control signals anyway.
You can make a request through an authorized agent. We'll ask for your signed permission and may ask you to confirm your identity with us directly.

California's "Shine the Light" law: we don't share personal information with other companies for their own direct marketing.
Adults only
This site and our matchmaking service are for adults 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think someone under 18 has sent us information, email may@matchmakermay.com and we'll delete it.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your personal information, though no system is 100% secure. Access is limited to the people who need it to run the service.
Where your information is stored
Our providers store information in the United States. Some of the people who help us run the service may access it from other countries.
Other websites
Links to Zoom, Instagram, our podcast or other sites are covered by those companies' own privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll email you before it takes effect.
